Guys and girls don’t necessarily speak different languages…but they do think differently. Sometimes you have to try to communicate the way you feel in a different way. Guys have a tendency to be more in tune with a rational state of mind than an emotional one, like girls. Try providing examples or present it as if the other person were in your shoes.

Confessions of a broken heart...
My boyfriend really wanted me to send him a naked picture of myself. I didn’t really understand why, but he assured me that if I did, he’d keep it a secret and NEVER show anyone. So finally I caved, and I sent him a picture of myself. The next day it seemed everyone knew. I couldn’t figure out how they all knew, but I was teased and called names. I bought this really cute outfit to wear to school. I wanted to impress my boyfriend. My boyfriend got mad and told me that he didn’t want me to wear clothes like that. What do I do?
You’re boyfriend probably doesn’t understand that you were trying to impress him. He probably thinks that other boys are looking at you and is a little jealous. First, your boyfriend does not have the right to tell you what to wear, you should wear what you feel comfortable in. However, you don’t have to wear skimpy outfits to look cute. Most boys actually think that more coverage is more attractive. Just be you, and dress the way you like to dress. The only person’s opinion of you who matters, is yourself.
Scott has been my best friend since seventh grade. But Josh, my new boyfriend, doesn’t like it when I hang out with Scott. I really want to keep being Scott’s friends, but I don’t want Josh to dump me. What do I do?
If Scott has been your friend, and YOU want to keep him as a friend, then you should. Your boyfriend should respect that you have friends that are girls and that are boys. Talk to Josh about Scott, and reassure him that he’s just your friend. Also explain that you can like them both, but differently. If Josh is still jealous he may not be the guy for you. It isn’t healthy for him to try to control who your friends are.

Does your guy/girl expect you to drop what you’re doing whenever he calls or texts and respond right away?
How do I tell him?
It might be helpful to make a list of things that your guy/girl has done to show you that he respects you and has earned time with you.

Maybe he/she feels that he owns your time. Make sure he/she isn’t trying to dominate your time by constantly checking up on you. He/she should respect that you have a busy schedule and he has to earn the time he gets with you.
Does your guy/girl expect you to drop what you’re doing whenever he calls or texts and respond right away?
If so, he/she doesn’t respect that you have other things going on in your life that require your attention. Your partner must understand that your time can be earned but cannot be owned.
How do I tell him?
Boys think very differently than girls. Boys text or call a lot because they think its what you want. Don’t yell when you talk to them, but make sure you’re communicating that you have other obligations in your life and you understand that he does too. But when you have time, you’ll return his message.
